Cloud Surfin’ Apparel

Prince Dean

Cloud Surfin’ Apparel was launched in 2017 by hip-hop artist and entrepreneur, Prince Dean. As an active artist, Dean noticed while on tour with Bay-Area artist and businessman Berner and several other performers that much of their income came from merchandise, as well as from performing. After this realization, Dean got the idea to develop a clothing brand that could appeal to those who may not come to shows, but would wear his clothing. As Dean traveled across the country between business appointments, shows, and family gatherings, he had an epiphany. “I was tired, but I realized I was cloud surfin,” he said, and the brand's  namesake was coined.  In 2015, Dean began to spread his new apparel line through his music connections in the industry, and he quickly began to garner a demand for his items. In 2020, he officially incorporated the business.

Dean’s belief that appearance is everything was instilled in him during his early days in Greenville, MS.  As a superfly, his father became an example of how important a role fashion could play in public perception, self-image, and confidence. After the family relocated to San Francisco’s Fillmore district, Dean dedicated himself to standing out, and becoming excellent despite his hardships as a child. After seeing how his dad lived life in Mississippi and wanting to emulate that, he translated that passion into the lifestyle Cloud Surfin’ represents. His family continues to lean on their deep San Francisco roots, including his grandfather who was a prominent pool shark, and knew notable musicians and public figures like B.B. King. Prince Dean aims to inspire the Culture both near and far with his “presentation is everything” mantra, inspiring others to reach and maintain excellence in all areas.
